Choosing a nursing home

Choosing a nursing home for yourself or a loved one can be challenging. The Minnesota Nursing Home Report Card helps inform your choice. In addition to the report card, consider other sources of information, visit nursing homes you are considering and discuss options with your family and facility staff.

For help with an ongoing physical or mental health condition or memory loss, long-stay nursing home care may be the right choice. All long-stay nursing home care provides 24-hour supervision, three meals a day, and assistance with everyday activities, with additional services as needed.

If a nursing home in your search is missing long-stay star ratings, please contact them for more information.
Some people stay at a nursing home for a short time with the goal of returning home. They may need nursing home care to recover after a hospital stay or for another reason. Short-stay nursing home care often includes rehabilitation services such as physical, occupational, or speech therapy.

If a nursing home in your search is missing short-stay star ratings, please contact them for more information.
